Man Brutally Kills Wife Over Facebook Obsession

A Scarborough, Ontario man allegedly beat his estranged wife to death Thursday, and left her body (pictured) to rot in her apartment while her 2-year-old played obliviously in the home because he felt she was justtoo obsessed with Facebook.

According to police, neighbors overheard a couple arguing violently and a small child screaming last Thursday night. The loud voices were coming from a sixth floor unit that was occupied by the victim, Shaher Bano Shahdady and her young son. Apparently, the accused, Abdul Malik Rustam had paid his wife a visit and an out of control argument had ensued.

When Shahdady’s parents did not hear from their 21-year-old daughter on Friday, they went to check on her and their grandson. Reportedly, a man was heard screaming, crying and repeating the phrase, “somebody killed my daughter!” The victim’s father Mullah Abdul Ghafoor was banging on the walls and floors according to neighbor Jake Terveld, who went to the aid of the distraught father.

Terveld told the Toronto Star that he followed the grief-stricken man to the young woman’s apartment and when he saw the victim’s body laying motionless on a bed with no blood in sight and apparently dead, he then called police.

According to the Examiner.com, Shahdady was allegedly forced to marry Rustam three years ago by her father. Rustam and Ghafoor are Muslim missionaries.

Shahdady’s constant Facebook obsession began to wear on the nerves of her husband during their marriage. The time that Shahdady spent on the social networking site, along with the fact that the couple had a dysfunctional relationship from the onset of their marriage, only fueled Rustam’s ire towards his wife, whom many have described as “very sweet.”

Rustam surrendered to police Saturday morning and was charged with first-degree murder.
