Have Any of Your Facebook Friends Been Arrested?

Want to find out if someone got arrested? There’s a Facebook app for that.

Arrestly, which debuted in beta earlier this week, allows Facebook users to choose five people to monitor, free-of-charge, and should any of those people get hauled to the hoosegow, users are alerted via email and text message.

Of course, way less than one percent of Facebook’s population gets arrested, and that comes right from Arrestly’s Chief Executive Officer Matt Steckler. Last year, 15 million people were arrested in the U.S.

We’d asked him why he sees a market for such an application given the tiny proportion of social networkers actually get cuffed. He replied:

Imagine having a babysitter that you trust, then makes a terrible mistake (gets a DUI), but doesn’t tell you. Or your parents are in a convalescent home, you want to make sure the people taking care of them are not arrested for assault, fraud, etc. We want you people to be able to be informed about the people around them. With Arrestly, you can also monitor people outside your friends list by adding people manually.

On of our main goals is to provide continuous criminal background checks for people that participate in peer-to-peer marketplaces, such as AirBnB, TaskRabbit, and other services where people are service providers. Down the road, we will have a service that aggregates data from these services, to become a trust and verification provider.

We think he needs to add that to the promotional writing on the Arrestly website. It now reads:

Arrestly is an informational service that works by scouring the Web for real-time arrest and booking information from nearly every county jail facility in the U.S. Arrestly will inform you immediately when someone you are watching is arrested and booked into jail.

Readers, would you want to sign up for something like Arrestly?

Facebook Messenger Needs Serious Improvement

Facebook loves to launch new applications, test them, get feedback, and iterate quickly. But I think the company’s latest group texting app needs improvement.

Don’t get me wrong; the strategic opportunity for Facebook to power all of your personal messages is endless. It’s the same reason Google wants to track your personal communication through the company’s Huddle group texting application.

This is probably why virtually every other publication I’ve read gave the product rave reviews. It makes no sense however that Facebook would start off with an application that sends incoherent messages to your close contacts.

Check out the screenshot below showing a conversation that came out of testing the application.

I decided to send a message to three close contacts, none of which were identifiable to the other individuals. Instead, variously formatted phone numbers were sent to them along with an awkwardly formatted message.

The result was that one person replied hours later after finally realizing that I had actually sent them a message. Alright, formatting text messages properly is something that all group texting companies wrestle with so I’ll forgive Facebook for their horrendous first attempt.

At least things work smoothly in the app, right? Nope. Take a look at the next screenshot.

I sent out a message to a bunch of people, one of which is listed at the top of the app. Then I get a message back from one person but I don’t know who it is because it’s just their phone number.

If there’s one thing that’s key to effective communication, it’s knowing who you are communicating with, something that this application is so far incapable of accomplishing.

It seems to me that Facebook decided to rush out an application with fewer capabilities than those found in Beluga, the acquired company that’s supposed to be powering the group texting.

I’m sure things will evolve for the better over the coming weeks and months. But in the meantime, you might want to hold off on making this the center of your personal messaging.

Readers, what do you think about Facebook Messenger?

Facebook Fixes Chat — All Better Now?

Facebook has just improved its chat. The service now defaults to showing the friends you talk to the most.

Here’s how the company explains the upgrade:

After we made changes to Facebook chat a few weeks ago, we got a lot of feedback that people missed seeing all of their online friends. Today, we made a change so that chat now shows the friends who you message the most, as well as the rest of your friends who are currently online.

We dig how Facebook continues to revise features, but wonder whether all the site’s users will feel the same way about the chat upgrade.

Readers, do you think the revamped chat is an improvement?

A True Love story with happy ending

A boy and a girl were in love.

When the girl's father came to know
about their love, he did not like it at
all, and so began to protest about it.

Now it happened that the two lovers
decided to leave their homes for a happy
future.

The girl's father started searching for
the two lovers but could not find
them .

At last, he accepted their love and
asked them to come back home thru a

local newspaper. Her father said "If
you both come back I will allow you to marry the
guy you love, I accept that you loved
each other truly."

So in this way, their love won and they
returned home.

The couple next day went to town to shop
for the wedding dress. He was dressed
in a white shirt that day. While he was
crossing the road to the other side to
get some drinks for his wife, a car
came and hit him and he died on the spot.

The girl was devastated and lost her
senses. It was only after sometime that
she recovered from her shock.

The funeral and cremation was the very
next day because he had died horribly.

Two nights later, the girl's mother had
a dream in which she saw an old lady.
The old lady asked her mother to wash the blood
stains of the guy from her daughter's
dress as soon as possible. But her
mother ignored the dream.

The next night her father had the same
dream , he also ignored it. Then the
girl had the same dream the next night, she
woke up in fear and told her mother
about the dream. Her mother asked her
to wash the clothes with the blood
stains

immediately.

She washed the stains but some remained.
Next night she again had the same
dream. She again washed the stains but some
still remained. But again the next
night she had the same dream and this
time the old lady gave her a last
warning to wash the blood stain, or
else something terrible would happen.

This time the girl tried her best to
wash the stains, and the clothes
nearly tore, but some stains still remained.

She was very tired.

In the late evening the same day while
she was alone at home, someone knocked
on the door. When she opened the door
she saw the same old lady of her dream
standing at her door. She got very
scared and fainted.

The old lady woke her up... and gave her
a blue object, which shocked the girl.

She asked "What is this....?" The old
lady replied...
